It’s been a minute. Life–and so much of it.
Stories: Since my last update, I sold a second story to Lightspeed, a longer SF piece that explores relationships through first contact. I also had my first ever novella accepted by Asimov’s, as well as my first ever sf mystery accepted by Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine. Still in negotiations on these two projects, so more to come. I had a fantastic day on December 1st, as three stories came out at the same time: The Lightspeed story, “The Riches We Take,” in Analog, and “A Runaway Bullet Runs Through Our Town,” in Blue Lake Review.
Work on the novel has slowed down, but that’s only in terms of word count. I’ve made some significant shifts that will make the novel stronger in the long run. I’m ready to start the final act, and then the long process of revision will begin.
My wife and I just got back from Poland and Czechia. Love those countries. The Christmas markets were beautiful and filled with tasty food. The history in these countries was definitely inspiring, and I left with a few good story ideas. My travels have put in in the holiday spirit, to be sure. I wish the same for all of you. Some exciting news on the short story front: I sold my first story to Lightspeed. When “The Cold Burning Light of Her” comes out, I’ll post it here. I also had three short stories come out this month in Vast Chasm, Penumbric Science Fiction, and Stupefying Stories. I also had a story come out on the Tales to Terrify podcast.
My novel is up to 23K at this point, and as I enter the second act, I’m excited about the direction it’s taking. More on that later.

Started writing my fantasy novel! Ten thousand words in and I’m feeling SO excited about this project. Worked with a group of fellow writers on a plot buster session, and they helped me hammer out the kinks. Spent the past couple of days reworking plot, but I’m ready to start writing again tomorrow.
Also finalized edits for stories coming out soon in Penumbric Speculative Fiction, Flash Fiction Online, and the Intergalactic Rejects anthology.

Working through my character discovery and worldbuilding for a new novel! I’ve discovered how to integrate Plottr and Scrivener, so the work is smooth so far. I should start work on the first draft in a few weeks. This one is Fantasy.
